I seem to be doing this a lot lately with everything. Defining everything and analyzing. This photo in particular is doing it now. Never again (maybe) will I post a face on shot. I hate it. I don't know why I am posting it now. I have the most asymmetrical face and I start studying every feature. I'm in the slumps, facing everything that comes my way. I just found out from my mother two nights ago that one of my dogs has lymphoma, a type of cancer. This is the second time we've gone through this, and it's no easier. Luckily in his case they say he has a good chance of going into remission. I pray he gets well NOW. I'm so attached to animals, my babies, and wish they could live happily forever. If only.

Little Black Dress

Last night I was on the hunt for a sexy and slightly sophisticated black dress. I came across this one and loved it! It’s a one shoulder taffeta flirty dress with volume at the bottom and pleating on the bust. I put this look together for a lovely evening out. It's simple and accessorized with trendy heels that give it a little oomph! The clutch is so simple and classic, while the ring gives a little bling without being over the top. Accessorize your look for less!

How often do you shampoo your do? Studies say less is more!

"Americans love to shampoo." According to statistics provided by Procter & Gamble, Americans shampoo their hair twice as much as the Italians and Spanish, at about 4.59 times a week! Perhaps we should reconsider our methods and take a look at our European neighbors, they’re the ones with the hair we all strive for!

As we all should know, washing your hair too often strips it of its natural oils which keeps it nourished and moisturized. Another common method which can dry out your hair is applying and lathering shampoo to your ends. You should only shampoo your roots and lightly massage down to the ends of your hair, as the rinse from the scalp down will cleanse it.

Braun 5270 Silk-épil X'elle Epilator Review

I wrote this review March of last year, but I figured it can serve a purpose here too! ;)

Okay so to be honest I hate having body hair. I don't like looking like I haven't hit puberty yet, but still a bit hairless. So in my quest of hair removal and smooth skin, I ended up at the epilator. I've tried them all. I started shaving my legs when I was in 6th grade, before the hair was even considered shaveable and I should've listened to my mother! It'll just grow in thicker and darker she said. Well she was right. I know people say it's not actually growing in thicker, it's cut at a "blunt" edge, whatever. I didn't want it. So a few years ago, sick of shaving after constant ingrown hairs and what not, I decided to start waxing. It's going to be painful they said! They too, were right. But it gets much easier and less painful. Again, sick of the constant upkeep of waxing, and cost, I started making my own sugar wax. I needed another answer to my problem. I had remembered a few years ago hearing about an epilator and thought OH MY GOSH that looks like a torture device. Well almost. And I left it at that.

Recently I began looking into it again, and decided to search for the best and maybe give it a shot. My first reaction was to look on Amazon.com, my go to place for reviews. I stumbled upon the Braun 5270 Silk-épil X'elle Body System Epilator. It was the top rated at 4.5 stars and 290 customer reviews. I looked at the next top rated ones but kept going back to the 5270. This epilator comes with three heads, the beginner "SmartStart Head" with less tweezers, the Advanced Head with massaging rollers, and an Electric Razor Head. Sounds good. Still a little scared, I sucked it up and decided to buy one. My next quest was finding it at the cheapest price. (Always looking for a bargain!) Off to eBay I went. The original retail price was $75, and later went to $59. Something was still stopping me from buying one, so my mother bought it for me. I received it in the mail and I was so excited and nervous. I read the user guide book and decided to give it a go.

[Braun 5270 Silk-épil X'elle Body System Epilator]
Product Features

  • Smartlight - A spotlight which helps you capture even single stray hairs resulting in ultimate smoothness
  • SmartStart Head - This head helps make your start in epilation easy
  • SoftLift system, part of the epilation system, lifts and guides the shortest and flat lying hairs to tweezers. It helps remove the shortest hairs that wax cannot capture
  • Active Massaging Rollers - 4-way moving massaging rollers stimulate skin with micro-pulses before and after hair is removed to minimize pulling sensation

Patience not being one of my best virtues, I started with the more advanced head. Gotta make sure the hair is long enough. Check! (Like with waxing, the epilator works at it's best on hairs 2-5mm) Okay so I plugged it in, took a deep breath, and started at the bottom of my leg. OMG. This is a device with 40 tiny tweezers pulling at once. I swear it had only pulled one hair and I had to stop lol. I grit my teeth, bit my lip, and started again, holding the skin taut. The more areas I went over, the easier it got. Obviously by now my endorphins are kicking in and relieving me from all pain to come. I got to my upper thighs. The hairs are so fine, so it was a breeze. I finished both legs in about 10-15 minutes, ankles to knees, to thighs, to bikini line.

Conclusion
I was pleasantly surprised. My skin hadn't turned red and really felt great. I know it may sound like I was in a lot of pain, but like with any beginning experience such as waxing, it hurts. But it gets better.

Pros
Very effective and fast! Very Time saving.
Cost - Saves tons of money spent on razers and waxing.
Not messy - No sticky wax or bacterial infected razers.

Cons
A little painful at first
Possible skin irritation
I suspect some hairs are being broken off as opposed to pulled out.
Pros outweigh cons.

Overall I give it a 7.5/10!

Orla Kiely Spring/Summer '09

Today I stumbled upon some of the cutest swimwear and I am in LOVE. It's a part of the Orla Kiely's Spring/Summer '09 collection. I've become a bit infatuated with the Orla Kiely line, how can you not be? You'll likely be interested if you're into colors and many fun shapes! Back to the swimsuits, they have a retro girly feel and while they might not be practical for those avoiding tan lines, etc they are a great accessory to start off the upcoming spring/summer dates. The blue flower set is my personal favorite. Check out the entire Orla Kiely Spring/Summer '09 collection!
